Kinsey was born and raised in southern Colorado into a family of artists, including her father, professional artist Dave Merrick. Growing up, Kinsey’s interests were found primarily in training horses and barrel racing, while her father often encouraged her to develop her God-given artist talent.
When Kinsey was not horseback, she dabbled in sketching and commission work for a variety of clients. These included the Nebraska High School Rodeo assc., wives of professional bull riders and other custom portraiture.
After nearly twenty years of marriage and six children later, Kinsey’s passion for artwork has truly begun to unfold. Kinsey currently specializes in custom portraiture using graphite, charcoal and pastels, with a unique ability to capture the likeness and spirit of her subjects. She looks forward to expanding her abilities and medium through the Art of the Cowgirl Fellowship with Jan Mapes
“I am beyond grateful and humbled to have been chosen to receive the 2019 Art of the Cowgirl Fine Art Scholarship,” Kinsey said. “The Art of the Cowgirl has been an absolutely blessing to so many and I am still blown away to be a part of it!”
Kinsey currently resides in rural South Carolina, with her husband and four small children. Together they train horses, raise cattle, and share with others their love of Jesus through all of their endeavors.
“I absolutely love what I do,” Kinsey said, “and I can’t wait to see what God has in store!”
